Javier Velez – Director of Photography/Editor/Musical Score/Sound Design

Javier started his involvement in film with music. From the early age of 13 he wrote music and studied harmony, counterpoint, orchestration and composition under professor James McCoy, PhD. At age 20 he was appointed the conductor of the Puerto Rico hand bell choir, appearing in public concerts and on TV on numerous occasions. After completing a BA in Finance he worked hisway to Corporate CFO in his native Puerto Rico.

Discouraged with the corporate world he joined the US Army, which gave him theopportunity to live in 9 countries and become fluent in English,Spanish, Greek, and Portuguese. An injury in the line of duty rendered him disabled after nine years of arduous peacekeeping missions. Forced to retirefrom field duty, he obtained an MA in Computer Information Systems and became asoftware engineer for missile and satellite trajectory calibration and re-tasking at Fort Bliss, Texas.Once discharged from active duty, he went back into the corporate world with a very successful career as a software engineer/statistician/behavioral analystfor over 10 years.

While working as a software engineer he reconnected with his initial love for music, and began writing scores for film. That experience led him to move into a number of disciplines in the film industry such as sound design, editing, computer generated visual effects, digital cinematography, screen writing, producing and directing.

Javier feels that technical knowledge without artistic vision renders all artwork sterile and soulless. His vision on temporal arts is exercised the same way across all disciplines: Visual and sound structure parallel to dramatic progression, where line, contour, tone, movement and rhythm are applied in a similar manner to all areas to obtain a unified product.

Javier works full time in the aforementioned film disciplines in Houston, TX
